Les Violons du Roy—a treasure of Québec City since its founding in 1984—brings a bountiful “Baroquet” of music by bigwigs of the day. Under the direction of Jonathan Cohen, this exceptional ensemble has 36 recordings to its name and a reputation for its attention to detail across music from the Baroque through the 20th century. Les Violons du Roy is joining forces in this concert with phenomenal classical guitarist MILOŠ. With pluck and verve they will incorporate the guitar into the ensemble so that we may hear the music—some familiar, some less so—afresh.

The chamber orchestra Les Violons du Roy takes its name from the renowned string orchestra of the court of the French kings. The group, which has a core membership of 15 players, was brought together in 1984 by Founding Conductor Bernard Labadie and continues under Music Director Jonathan Cohen to specialize in the vast repertoire of music for chamber orchestra.

The ensemble takes its name from the celebrated court orchestra of the French kings. Under music director Jonathan Cohen, this orchestra soars to truly regal heights. With classical guitarist MILOŠ, Les Violons du Roy explores an expansive chamber orchestra repertoire with a skillful faithfulness to the period of each work.

Returning to FCM’s series for a second time, Quebec’s 15-member Les Violins du Roy – named after the court orchestra of the French Kings – will perform a program of Baroque and Classical music with Conductor and Music Director Jonathan Cohen. Thirty-six recordings by Les Violons du Roy have all been met with widespread critical acclaim.
Les Violons du Roy will be joined by the world-renowned classical guitarist, MILOS. His career began its meteoric rise in 2011 with the release of his international best- selling Deutsche Grammophon debut album Mediterraneo.
